Statement of Intent Studio Theme 2

Statement of intent
Theme: Still Life / Macro
Title of the theme: “My little peanut friends”

Intentions/purpose of the photography to be undertaken

For this theme I am going to take photographs of still life. I have chosen to take images of my favourite snack  M&M's and their packaging.
I'm planning to take photos of those sweets

The final images will be presented on my blog (college course)

Reasons for selection of theme (including inspiration from the work of others)

At first I was going to take photographs of make up / beauty but I didn't find that challenging enough. The idea for this theme just came to me one day sitting at home watching tv and eating my favourite snacks. After checking with my tutor Dave has agreed for this to be changed.
As I was searching for images I came across work of photographer Simon Smith and photographer which work I've already looked at David Loftus.

The photo imaging equipment and medium that will be used and why

I'll be using my Nikon D3000  to capture the images as RAW files.
The equipment that I'll use to take my images will be:
Bowens studio lights, soft box, round beauty dish, reflector.
Some images will be taken in the college studio on a studio lighting table and some in my home on white foam boards.
I will be shooting my images at ISO 100 to achieve maximum sharpness i'll be using my camera in manual mode and planning to set the shutter speed of 1/125.
I have decided that i'll edit the images in Photoshop Elements 9 and Lightroom 4.

Techniques that will be used and how they will help convey the visual message

Most of the images will be taken close up but at different angles.
The macro photographs will be taken with very shallow depth of field
As previously mentioned the photographs will be taken on a studio table which will help to evenly illuminate the subject, this is a perfect way to take capture images in High key lighting.

How light quality can be used to help convey the visual message

With the right lighting control and measuring its intensity I'm hoping to show the vibrant colours of the subject.
My aim is to present their contrast and colourfulness by taking the photographs in High key lighting which will separate them from the white background.

Safety considerations

To prevent accidents to me and others in studio environment all health and safety measures will be taken.
To prevent any tripping hazards by ensuring all parties are aware of placement of any cables or other objects.
To ensure all electrical and battery operating equipment, along with lighting equipment are used, put away and stored in a safety manner.
To ensure all electrical equipment are PAT tested.
