week 7 portraits

I missed that weeks class, but after looking through Lynn's blog and also noticing Dave posting few tips on portrait photography I figured that was the challenge.
As I never get time to take photos of my stepson I finally managed to convince him to pose for few shots :)
As always used my Nikon D3000, with a standard lens 18-55mm.
I'm going to admit it as my laptop is playing up I've adjusted these images in windows photo gallery, I know I know what a sin.
I've adjusted white balance, contrast, saturation, and tint.

ISO 100, Manual mode, F5.6  S1/6

ISO 100, Manual mode, F5.6  S1/2.5 WB auto

ISO 100, Manual mode, F5.6  S1/6 WB flash

week 8 colour

Have been really busy this week so I haven't had the time to think about this one to much, but it came into my mind all on its own :) whilst getting ready to go out I've noticed how this week theme don't really need much thinking about ;) COLOURS are everywhere!
Photos taken with my Nikon D3000 standard 18-5mm lens
First I've checked my camera battery is charged, I've re-set my camera settings, set to take images in RAW(NEF) format and off I went :)
Built in flash was used in taking of all images.

ISO 200 Aperture Priority mode F5.6 S 1/60 WB direct sunlight

ISO 200 Aperture Priority mode F5.6 S 1/60 WB Flash

ISO 100 Manual mode F4.5 S1/6 WB Auto

ISO 100 Manual mode F5.6 S1/6 WB Flash

1.  ISO 100, Manual mode,  F5.6 S1/6 WB direct sunlight

2.  ISO 100, Manual mode,  F5.6 S1/4 WB direct sunlight

3 . ISO 100, Manual mode,  F5.6 S1/1.6 WB direct sunlight

In last 3 images by adjusting the shutter speed  has proved beneficial,  I think the middle image would be the "best" there is just right amount of light being allowed to go through. Image 3 is slightly over exposed and image 1 under exposed.

theme 1 inspiration

One of the photographers that helped me make my mid up about my first theme, I would even say inspired me in a way is Jim Galli. His work content ranges which is one of the reasons I enjoy looking at his photgraphs.
The image below is from Jim's website, and it was taken with Burke and James AJAX Petzval lens on a Kodak 9a Century studio camera. Paper negatives were then scanned and inverted to Photoshop.

Stunning result isn't it :)
