Statement of Intent Studio Theme 1
Statement of intent
Theme: Still Life
Title of the theme: “Lemony squeezy”
Intentions/purpose of the photography to be undertaken
For this theme I am going to take photographs of still life. The subject I have chosen is lemons and products associated with lemons. I think this will prove to be challenging. I'm hoping to produce a set of themed images both in colour and black & white. My final images will be presented on my blog (college course)
Reasons for selection of theme (including inspiration from the work of others)
I have chosen lemons as my subject because of their fresh and vibrant colour.
As my inspiration I'll be looking at an amazing work of food photographers David Loftus and James Carrierer.
I didn't choose portrait photography as I thought that would have been an easy option I think this will be more creative project to undertake.
The photo imaging equipment and medium that will be used and why
I'll be using my Nikon D3000, 18 -55mm to capture the images as RAW files.
The photographs will be captured using equipment such as: bowens studio lights with soft box and round beauty dish, reflector. Some images will be taken on a studio lighting table and some on white foam boards.
I'll set the scene's on different backgrounds.
There will be some image manipulation and this will be done in Photoshop Elements 9 and Lightroom 4.
Techniques that will be used and how they will help convey the visual message
The images will be taken in a studio environment, in low and high key lighting. The biggest influence on technique will be use and modification of artificial lighting.
I'll be using tissue paper over the light head to soften the light and eliminate reflection in the fruit peel.
The photographs will be captured at different angles and presented in colour and black and white.
How light quality can be used to help convey the visual message
The lighting will play the biggest part in my project. By controlling the artificial lighting I'm hoping to bring out the texture and details of the subject. As previously mentioned photos will be captured in low and high key lighting and I'm hoping this will prove interesting to the viewers eye, and will show diversity in techniques.
Safety considerations
All health and safety measures will be taken to prevent accidents to me and others in studio environment.
To take all safety precautions when using any electrical and battery operating equipment, along with lighting equipment.
To prevent any tripping hazards by ensuring all parties are aware of placement of any cables or other objects.
To ensure all equipment are put away and stored in a safety manner.
To ensure all electrical equipment are PAT tested.
