Statement of intent theme 2 Church

Statement of intent

Theme: Built Environment, Church
Title of the theme:“Like a prayer these walls will take you there”

Intentions/purpose of the photography to be undertaken
I am going to take photographs of a local Church.
I am  planning to capture the beauty of the Parish and emphasise its features.
I want my images to tell a story to the viewer therefore they will be taken outside and then go into inside of the building.
My 10 images will be published on my blog as well as presented in a portfolio as a 12x8 prints.

Reasons for selection of theme (including inspiration from the work of others)
After seeing photographs taken by Edward McCain I have decided to choose Church as my theme. Looking around my local area I found a beautiful Church its St Elizabeth in Reddish and I have decided to choose it as my subject. I have always been interested in old churches and their history therefore I think that the research that will come along with this theme will prove to be fascinating.

The photo imaging equipment and medium that will be used and why
I will be using my Nikon D3000 camera, with a standard lens size 18-55mm and a UV filter lens. To create an unusual effects I'll use super fish eye lens lens adaptor +0.25x for the interior of the church.
For my indoor images I intent to use a built in flash and an additional flash Speedlite YN460. I will be using a tripod to take most of my images.

Techniques that will be used and how they will help convey the visual message
I am going to use variety of shutter speeds in order to achieve different light effects and I will be focusing on colours and shapes whilst taking my photographs
I will try and shoot my images at different angles some head on and some from a low angle, I am hoping that will make them more interesting and different.
There will be some image manipulation and for this I will be using Photoshop elements 9.

How light quality can be used to help convey the visual message
As most churches have small windows and often are fitted with limited(poor) lighting I will be using my built in flash as well as additional flash. To achieve unusual effect I am also planning to take photographs with no flash at all.
To help in me with poor lighting I am going to increase my ISO setting to maximum, when needed only as I know that higher ISO reading can cause picture quality deterioration.

Safety considerations
Firstly I am going to obtain the necessary permissions from the church authorities.
When shooting I have to make sure that my equipment is not a hazards for anyone, that is safely set up and visible to everyone. For my safety someone must always be aware of my were about's as well as what gear I have got with me. In case of poor weather conditions I must wear appropriate clothing and footwear.
For indoor shoots I will be taking everyday health and safety prospects into consideration.
